Well, well, here we are! Welcome to HandyGames' first Newsletter. In this more or less monthly newsletter, we'll keep you up to date with what has happened here at our HQ - you'll get exclusive behind-the-scenes looks, news about the folks and follies, and maybe see how far a certain game has progressed.
Not only are your voyeuristic needs met, but we'll throw in a key or a hint to a discount on our games once in a while. So you get the news about your beloved games publisher, and something in return for giving us your precious email addresses. Win-win.
WE WON AT THE Der Deutsche Computerspielpreis 2021!
"El Hijo - A Wild West Tale" was voted Best Family Game by the jury of the Deutscher Computerspielpreis and awarded €80,000 in prize money.
Precisely because of its setting, accessibility, and unique atmosphere and emotional story, the game is equally enjoyable for younger players and adults alike. The jury has been convinced by the exciting Wild West adventure that families can experience together.

OWLS AND A GONDOLA
Spring is finally here - and we at HandyGames feel that, too. Not only is it getting warmer by the day, but the wildlife here at the old army barracks in Giebelstadt is prospering as well. And to our surprise, a cute Long-eared owl and her mate decided that the tree in front of our HQ is the best place to raise her chicks. Owlivia and Powl are now our new temporary mascots until they leave us in June. If you want to follow what they do and maybe catch a glimpse of the baby owls, we post updates on Twitter. Now what about that gondola, you ask?
Other companies provide smoker's booths or outside meeting rooms that look like aquariums and cost a lot of money and, of course, resources. We, at HandyGames, think there must be better ways. So "up-cycling" it is. Due to climate change, skiing resorts cannot use their lifts and gondolas anymore. And instead of scrapping, they refurbish and sell them. We thought that this was a nice idea and got ourselves a gondola.
This is gondola 35 of the "Montafon Valisera" line in Austria. Until February 28 of this year, the line and this gondola had been taxiing passengers up and down Mt. Valisera in the southwest of the country.
THE GIRL AND A CAMERA
It seems that Spanish is not as easy a language as we thought. As we were watching the reviews for El Hijo - A Wild West Tale, we could not help but notice that almost nobody knows how to pronounce El Hijo!
So, we dragged our Laura in front of the camera and told her to pronounce it correctly. Well, it escalated... Spoiler: It is not pronounced Al Hi-Joe.

GIRLS' DAY AT HandyGames
Once a year in Germany, there is the Girls' Day - a day solely for girls' career opportunities. And we at HandyGames do not stand idly by. We prepared a 2,5 h stream showcasing selected jobs in the gaming industry. Also, this was a good opportunity to take a deep look behind the scenes. Are you looking for a job in the games industry?
