HANDYGAMES NEWSLETTER // MAY22

MAY 2022

As you – dear reader – are surely aware, HandyGames’ first steps began at the dawn of mobile mass communication. In 2000, when HandyGames was established, mobiles (aka “Handys” in German) were the size of the original Gameboy with a fraction of the computing power, let alone the display resolution. Among HandyGames’ first games were classics for Siemens mobile phones, such as Stack Attack! and Balloon Shooter.

Nowadays, mobile devices have enough power to emulate complex modern PC games, but mobile games still bear the prejudice of inferior quality and rip-offs. This may stem from Pay2win models or the ad-driven free games from the 2010s. Today, mobile games – at least good ones, like ours – are of good quality. Try for yourself, and you might be surprised.

But I guess you’ve known all that. 😉

Bernhard Richter, PR-Manager HandyGames

"SCHNAPSZAHL" (REPDIGIT)

22 years ago, HandyGames was established. What was once two brothers' “dream factory” has transformed into a well-renowned international publisher of premium Indie games, with over 100 headstrong today within the family of one of the biggest game companies in the world – The Embracer Group, parent to THQ Nordic.

We have been steadily evolving our company and portfolio to publish and produce award-winning titles for cutting-edge consoles, PC, and VR (check out Townsmen VR), as well as premium mobile games from great teams around the world.

Always on track towards lasting growth, we have significantly expanded our office space to accommodate up to 120 colleagues at our HQ alone and look forward to continuing down this path. And there's a lot of awesome stuff still in the pipeline! Keep your eyes open!

NETFLIX & CHILL

You were told to keep your eyes open, did we not? 👀 Well, here’s a very special treat for you: Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt is getting a mobile version on Netflix Games. Soon. The first German full-price title, too. This 2019 PC game got a bit of polish, and it seems it fits the entertainment platform very well. Wait for it.

More info coming very soon!

BURGER-FRIDAY

Today is also Burger-Friday at HandyGames 🍔! Check out this beauty - if you want to maybe get a hold of something similar and want to work in the games industry... well, I guess it's time for you to check our vacancies!

So first off, thank you, Jenny and Sophia, for choosing to spend your day with us. Together, we took a closer look at what it takes to develop a video game and at the different kinds of jobs essential to developers and publishers.
